Oh My Blog

Oh My Blog….How I have missed you.
I’m not sure where the time has gone but I do know the time has not been spent on one of my favorite pass times.  My poor blog has been neglected and I miss sharing.
Spring has arrived, mini vacations have been enjoyed and general Modern Mom chores have been keeping me busy, but in the back of my mind I am always thinking – if I get to the last item on my spring clean-up to do list I can sit down and chatter on my blog.

Well today is the day – I’m Back – For a quick little fun light hearted blog.

Last month we made our annual trip to my favorite adult destination – Las Vegas. I love Vegas for the drinks, the nightlife, the people watching, and of course,  the shopping.  Vegas is a feast for your eyes and I LOVE it – I can’t get enough of it actually. Where else can I window shop at Chanel and get my stripper shoes(kidding) at the same time a few stores down the block OR where else can I stand in a Starbucks line with a gaggle of 20 somethings with breasts a poppin’ at 9:00 a.m planning their day of drinking and guy chasing by the pool.  Heck I think I was a little jealous of the 20 somethings and poor Mr. Modern – he didn’t know what to do with himself…or his eyes.
My favorite daytime pass time is to window shop all the beautiful couture shops that I can only dream to shop in. I love looking in the windows to see all the items that I have seen in a magazine spread. The goods always look so much better in person – it doesn’t make me necessarily want them but I am in awe of their ‘awesomeness’. My Vegas ladies and I took a little tour of the Miu Miu showroom and had a little giggle as the salesperson followed us (a little too closely) through the store as we touched everything we possibly could get our little paws on. I’m sure he hated us by the time we were done…

Anywhoo – I always have to take some pics of some of the items I was a little obsessed with.  There is always a pair of shoes that makes me drool.  The shoe of choice this trip was Christian Louboutin’s Lady Peep Sling Spikes (in pic collage below)  I stood in front of the window worshiping the shoe and my ‘fashion practical’ friend said “Where would you wear those?”  I said – “Who gives a f**k.  These shoes would own any closet they sit in.”

Vegas Style

Modern Mom is back from Las Vegas – suitcase a little heavier (from all the shopping), a few pounds heavier (from all the food and liquor indulging), and with a new appreciation for cool summers.

Las Vegas is one of my favorite destinations to stay and play at. There is something about the trashy meets classy atmosphere in Vegas that appeals to me. I love to people watch and see the ladies with their Louis Vuitton bags and stilettos teetering along the strip and the very next set of ladies behind them will be rocking their spandex leggings, crop tops and flip flops. Mr. Modern and I were discussing what we look for when we people watch in Vegas.  I watch for all the different handbags and shoes and Mr. Modern….well….he is on boob watch. He can’t seem to help himself.

I had a style plan when I was packing for my Vegas vacation.  The plan was this:  cute and classy in the daytime, sweet and sexy in the evening.  The style plan was all good in theory – until I got there – and started to melt.  The first morning in Vegas I whipped out my strapless maxi dress, sandals, applied my make-up and put my hair up in a top knot – ready to shop.  By mid morning I was a hot mess.  My make-up was melting and I was sweating – not a pretty sight.  By the end of our first day I was limping back to our room with my Outlet shopping treasures and looking for a Walgreens along the way – I had to buy some darn blister band-aids for my poor little sweaty feet.

The next day I had to regroup and rethink my daytime style strategy.  Plan B was: no make-up (with the exception of sunscreen, mascara, eyebrow gel and lip gloss).  Hair was always up in a bun, top knot or ponytail and I wore the least amount of clothes possible.  If I could have walked around naked…I would have.  I found that shorts and light flowy tanks worked the best for me – a little bohemian chic for hot Vegas days.  The evenings were no cooler than the daytime but it didn’t matter too much as we spent our evenings at a show and in our favorite lounges and casinos.  Hot housewife heels were not an issue in the evening – as long as Mr. Modern carried me from hotel to hotel.  Who says Vegas has to be practical?

In the end we had a lot of fun and I picked up some ‘trend’ worthy items from the shops which I will share in another blog.  I also spent some time at Walgreens, not only looking for the aforementioned band-aids, but also for some of the beauty products that haven’t yet made it to Canada.  Very pleased with my drugstore finds which I can’t wait to try out and share with you.
